How are you doing today? We have an event that you don’t want to miss!
Hacktoberfest is an annual event that promotes open source software development and encourages contributions to open source projects on platforms like GitHub and GitLab.
Some of the reasons why Hacktoberfest is so popular are because during this one month of this fest, it encourages developers — beginners and experienced — to contribute to open source technologies. The development of open source software is extremely essential because it symbolises innovation, evolution of the internet, and allows Internet users to have free and accessible access to software. An example of open source software are streaming services like OBS Studio.
By joining Hacktoberfest as a beginner, you will get the opportunity to work on real-life projects posted by popular companies and get exposure on using version control systems like GitHub. Additionally, you get connected to a talented global community of developers dedicated to contributing to open source, this gives you and your community a chance to learn about community building and joining the celebration of open source technology. Many participants also become new contributors, sharing their knowledge and code to any open-source projects and improve the quality of existing software. The Hacktoberfest organizers also offer special awards for all those who contribute to open projects.
This is an oppurtunity for community members to use their skills in real world applications, collaborate with different teams and connect.
This month long event is in partnership with GDSC Akwa Ibom Polytechnic, GDSC Federal University of Abeokuta, GDSC Kampala University Ggaba and GDSC Nairobi Technical Training Institute.
